## Configuration

### Editing an image with Dynamic Media

Main configuration options:

- <strong>Asset Status: </strong> Verify the green "Published to DM" checkmark to ensure the image is active.
- <strong>Smart Crop Ratios: </strong>Select predefined Ratios (e.g. 16:9, 1:1); AI automatically centers the focal point.
- <strong>Responsive Viewports: </strong> Use "Different Images" to set specific ratios for Tablet and Mobile.
- <strong>Accessibility: </strong> Add Alt-Text for SEO or mark as Decorative to skip screen readers.
- <strong>Performance: </strong>Keep Lazy Loading enabled and WebP as the format for faster page speed.
- <strong>Global References: </strong>Check "Is Referenced" before re-cropping to avoid unintended changes on other pages.
- <strong>Permission:</strong> Ensure you belong to the siteadmin, chiefeditor, or normaleditor group to access and edit Smart Crop views.

### In this how to

Here is a list of topics you will learn:

- Asset Selection
- Ratios & Viewports
- Image Processing & Performance
- Accessibility & Alt Text

#### Asset Selection

Quick Refresher: Navigate to your project folder in the **DAM** and simply **drag and drop** your image into the workspace. Once uploaded, the **Dynamic Media Server** takes over—please allow up to one minute for the **AI** to analyze the file and generate your **Smart Crops**.

##### Useful Hint

- Even though you upload a JPEG, Dynamic Media **automatically delivers WebP** to your website visitors to maximize page performance. You get AI Smart Cropping, and your users get a fast-loading page.
- Can't see the Smart Crop previews? To view and manage Smart Crops, your user profile must be assigned to one of the following project groups: **siteadmin**, **chiefeditor**, or **normaleditor**. If the view remains hidden, please contact your local administrator to check your permissions.

#### Ratios & Viewports

One you select an image in the component dialog. There will be several Information regarding the Image you have uploaded.

##### Useful Hint

- When the **Image Dialog** shows that an Asset is **Referenced (Yes, 1 page)**, keep in mind that any **Manual Crops** or **Adjustments** you make to this image are **Global**. Changing the focal point or Crop now will update the Visuals across every cage where this specific image is used.

#### Image Processing & Performance

AI takes a moment: After dragging your image into the DAM, it may take up to a minute for the Dynamic Media server to generate all Smart Crops. If you don't see the crops immediately, give it a few seconds.

- Desired Format (WebP): This is set to WebP by default. Even if you uploaded a JPEG to the DAM, the system delivers WebP to the visitor’s browser, offering up to 75% better compression without losing quality.
- Image Quality: Our global standard is 75%. You can configure this default image quality used for new configurations with the FoundationNg Site Config value Default Webp Image Quality. We recommend 75% as it provides a perfect Balance between visual Quality and site Performance for most use cases. This standard value can still be manually adjusted per component configuration using the slider in the Image Component Dialog.
- Image Sharpening: If an image appears slightly "soft" after being cropped or scaled, you can enable Sharpening to make the edges look crisper.
- Image Width: Set to Default. The system automatically detects the user's screen resolution and serves the smallest possible file size that still looks sharp.

##### Useful Hints:

- **Stick to the Defaults for Speed:** For 90% of your content, you don't need to change anything here. Our global **Default Quality** of **75%** and the automated **WebP Format** delivery ensure your page passes **Core Web Vitals** (Google's speed test) with flying colors.
- **Presets:** The **"Enable Preset"** checkbox is primarily for advanced architectural setups. These **Presets** are created and managed by the **Solutions Team**. Unless you have been given a specific Preset name for your project, leave this box unchecked.
- **The "No Flip" Rule:**The **Flip** option allows you to mirror an image. Be careful: mirroring images with text or logos will make them unreadable. Always double-check the preview if you use this setting.

#### Accessibility & Alt Text

- **Alt-Text**: Describe what is visible in the image to help screen readers and SEO.
- **Decorative Checkbox**: If the image is just a background pattern, check this box to hide it from accessibility tools.

## Does, Don'ts

![](https://www.eonshowroom.eon.com/cdm-assets/is/image/eon/dcc25bcb-4735-4645-9822-b49fb3ae81b1?fmt=webp)

### What you should do

- <strong>Check Viewports: </strong> Always verify the Mobile crop, as vertical screens often need a different ratio than Desktop.
- <strong>Use Alt-Text: </strong> Ensure every non-decorative image has a description for accessibility.

![](https://www.eonshowroom.eon.com/cdm-assets/is/image/eon/9884279e-1390-4634-bda2-7b7d4dc1e149?fmt=webp)

### What you shouldn't do

- <strong>Don't Re-Crop Shared Assets:</strong> Avoid changing crops on images already in use elsewhere to prevent breaking other pages.
- <strong>Don't Upload WebP to the DAM:</strong>Although the system delivers WebP to users, you should upload JPEG to the DAM so the AI can process it correctly.
- <strong>Don't expect Smart Crops for SVGs: </strong> SVGs are treated as static files; manual or AI cropping is not available for this format.

### Folder level Publishing Modes

Once the images have been processed with the smart crop profile applied, they need to be published to the dynamic media server.
Depending on the configuration this can be done automatically or manually.

Note: The "immediate" mode has beeen applied to all cloud environments (except the Romanian program) at a global level and inherited by all subordinate folders.

##### Immediately: Assets are sent to Dynamic Media as soon as they're uploaded to the DAM.

- Function: Images are sent directly to Dynamic Media when uploaded.
- Status: You will immediately see the green check mark “Published to DM.”
- Action: You don't need to do anything. The image is ready to use immediately.

##### Upon Activation: Assets are sent to Dynamic Media when doing the regular publishing. You can't choose if you want to send to DM or the publisher; it will automatically publish to both environments

- Function: The image will not be transferred until you publish it manually.
- Status: The dialog box will display “not published” until you take action.
- Action: Select the image in the DAM and click on “Quick Publish” (live immediately) or “Manage Publication” (scheduled for later).

##### Selective Publish: Like 'Upon Activation', but the publishing mask will give you the options to choose a specific environment.

- Function: Same as “Upon Activation,” but you decide where the image goes.
- Status: Allows images to be checked only on the test environment first.
- Action: Use “Manage Publication” to specifically select the target environment (e.g., eonstage).
