# Content Aggregator (Blog & News)
The Content Aggregator feature set enables editorial teams to create interactive content hubs and structured editorial articles. The core of the overview page is the **Content Aggregator (Blog & News variant)**, which allows visitors to filter articles dynamically by date and topic tags without requiring a page reload.
Combined with dedicated article templates, the feature ensures consistent metadata display, dynamic reading times, author attribution, and automated related-article recommendations.

### Content Aggregator (Blog & News) editing in a nutshell
Main configuration options of the Content Aggregator (Blog & News) component
- Content Path:Parent page path holding all target articles to aggregate.
- Filter Topics:Taxonomy tags retrieved from child pages to populate the topic filter.
- Items per PageSets how many article teasers display before pagination (default: 5).
- Enable topic and date filters: Checkbox to render the interactive live filter bar above the list.
- No Items Found Message:Editable fallback notification when active filters match zero results.
- HTML tag for SEO:Semantic heading rank (H2–H4, p) for article titles.
- Media & Meta Toggles:Checkboxes to show/hide images, tags, dates, and times across viewports.

## Before you begin: One Content Aggregator per page
**Important**: Use only **one**Content Aggregator on a page. Adding more than one Content Aggregator can cause unexpected behavior, especially when filters are used.
#### Content Tab Configuration
## Configure the data source, filter rules, and fallback messaging for empty result sets.
##### Configure the Content tab by selecting the content source, choosing filter topics, setting the pagination limit, and defining a custom message for cases where no content is available.
**Content Path ***
Select the parent directory that contains your target article child pages (e.g. /content/foundationNG/en/specials/q-a or your regional blog/news repository). The component automatically aggregates and displays all published child pages residing beneath this path.
**Filter Topics**
Select the specific taxonomy tags that will appear in the frontend topic filter dropdown. The available options are pulled dynamically from the child pages under the chosen content path.
**Items per Page**
Controls how many teaser items appear per page before pagination controls trigger. The default value is set to **5**.
**Enable topic and date filters**
Check this box to render the interactive on-page filter bar (multi-select date and topic dropdowns) directly above the aggregated articles.
**No Items Found Message**
Define the user-facing message displayed whenever an active filter combination returns zero articles. Set by default to No items found. Maintain this field to provide localized, clear editorial feedback.

#### Layout Tab Configuration

**HTML Tag for SEO:** Controls the semantic heading hierarchy for article titles across teaser cards. When set to default, the component policy defines the heading level. Editors can explicitly assign semantic levels (H2, H3, H4, or p) to ensure a logical document outline without skipping heading ranks.
**Media (Image):**
- **Display image for each item:** Enables thumbnail preview images on individual teaser cards.
- **Image visibility on mobile devices:** Toggles thumbnail rendering on mobile screens. *Note:* This option is conditional and will only take effect if *Display image for each item* is checked.
**Meta Information (Tag, Date & Time)**
- **Display tags for each item:** Shows assigned topic and category badges on each teaser card (Enabled by default).
- **Display date information for each item:** Renders the article publication date (Enabled by default).
- **Display time information for each item:** Optionally displays the exact time of publication alongside the date.
**Abstract & Headline (Visibility and Length)**
- **Display abstract/description:** Renders teaser summary text pulled from the article's page properties (Enabled by default).
- **Abstract Max Length:** Caps the number of characters displayed in the teaser abstract to maintain uniform card heights across multi-column grids. The standard default is **125** characters.
#### Interactive Example & Testing
##### To verify the setup directly on your page:
**Filter by Topic:** Select one or multiple topic tags from the category dropdown to refine the article stream instantly via AJAX.
**Filter by Date:** Choose a predefined date range to display only articles published within that timeframe.
**Toggle View Modes:** Use the view switcher in the top right corner to alternate between standard **List View** and multi-column **Tile View**.
**Test the Empty State:** Combine incompatible filter options to trigger and verify your custom **"No items found"** fallback message.
**Reset Filters:** Clear all active filter selections to return to the full article archive without a page reload.
## Does, Don'ts
### What you should do
- Keep to the Single-Instance Rule: Use only one Content Aggregator per overview page to ensure reliable filter synchronization and clean pagination.
- Maintain Clean Taxonomy: Apply standardized, approved tags across all child articles so the topic filter dropdown remains concise and intuitive.
- Keep Abstract Lengths Uniform: Respect the recommended ~125 character limit for abstracts to maintain balanced card heights across multi-column grids in Tile View.
- Provide an Empty-State Message: Always define an informative No Items Found Message so users receive clear feedback when active filters yield no results.
### What you shouldn't do
- Don't stack multiple aggregators: Never place two or more Content Aggregators on the same page, as this causes UI conflicts and broken state handling.
- Don't check "Images on mobile" in isolation: Avoid enabling Image visibility on mobile devices without checking Display image for each item, as images will not render at all.
- Don't overload articles with tags: Avoid adding dozens of tags to individual articles, which clutters the topic dropdown menu and slows down user selection.
- Don't leave the Content Path empty: A valid parent page path is strictly required for the component to discover and aggregate child articles.
- Don't place on dark backgrounds without testing: Avoid dark background color themes (e.g., red500), as pagination styling is currently optimized for light backgrounds.
